Exporting Product or Customer Information

The best way to become familiar with the structure of your information is to export the data as a comma separated value file (CSV), and open it in a spreadsheet. Once you become familiar with the process, you will find that it is the most efficient way to manage large amounts of data. For example, if you are updating product meta data, there is no reason to export all the product attributes. Rather, export only the fields, or attributes that you want to update. Then after making the necessary changes, re-import the CSV file back into your catalog.

The Macintosh version of Microsoft Office supports multiple CSV file formats. When saving your CSV file, be sure to save it as a CSV (MS Windows) file type.

To export products:

  1. From the Admin menu, select System > Import/Export > Export.
  2. Export

  3. Set Entity Type to “Products.” The system generates a list of entity attributes that are relevant to your products. By default, all attributes are exported to the CSV file.
    • To exclude any attribute from the export, select the Skip checkbox for the item.
    • To limit the number of columns of exported data, use the filter controls to list only the attributes you want to include.
  4. Scroll down and click the Continue button to export the data to a CSV file.
  5. When prompted, you can either open the data in a spreadsheet, or save the file.

To export customer data:

  1. From the Admin menu, select System > Import/Export > Export.
  2. Set Entity Type to “Customers.” The system generates a list of all the attributes related to your customer information.
  3. Scroll down and click the Continue button to export the data to a CSV file.
  4. Open the file in your favorite spreadsheet, and edit as needed.
