Attribute Properties

The Attribute Properties section defines the properties that make up each attribute to determine how the field is used in the product catalog.

Property Descriptions

Attribute Code(Required) A unique identifier for internal use. The code can include a combination of lowercase letters (a-z) and numbers (0- 9), but must begin with a letter. The Attribute Code cannot include any special characters or spaces, although an underscore (_) can be used to indicate a space.
ScopeIndicates the relative range of influence the attribute has in your store. Scope can be used to make an attribute available throughout the entire website, or limit its use to a specific store view. Options include:

Catalog Input Type for Store OwnerDetermines the data type associated with the attribute, and input control used by the store administrator during data entry. Options include:
Text FieldA single line input field for text.
Text AreaA multiple-line input field that can include paragraphs of text.
DateAn input field for date values. The date can be typed directly into the field, or selected from a list or calendar.
Yes/NoDisplays a drop-down list with the pre-defined options of “Yes” and “No.”
DropdownDisplays a drop-down list of configurable options, from which only one can be selected.
Multiple SelectDisplays a drop-down list of configurable options, from which multiple items can be selected. To select more than one option, hold the Ctrl key down and click each item.
PriceThis input type is used to create additional price fields that may be needed in addition to the predefined attributes, Price, Special Price, Tier Price and Cost.
Fixed Product TaxThe Fixed Product Tax input type lets you define FPT rates based on the requirements of your locale.
Default ValueAssigns a starting value for the attribute, to help during data entry.

This option is not available for Multiple Select, Dropdown, or Fixed Product Tax input types. To assign a default value to Multiple Select or Dropdown input types, see Manage Label / Options.

Unique ValueTo prevent duplicate values in this field, set Unique Value to “Yes.” Options include: Yes / No
Values RequiredTo require that a value to be entered in this field before the record can be saved, set Values Required to “Yes.” Options include: Yes / No
Input Validation for Store OwnerPerforms a validation check of the data entered in the field, based on the following options:

Decimal Number
Integer Number
Email
URL
Letters
Letters (a-z, A-Z) or Numbers (0-9)
Apply To(Required) Identifies the product types with which this attribute can be used. Options include:
All Product Types
Selected Product Types
Simple Product
Grouped Product
Configurable Product
Virtual Product
Bundle Product
Gift Card
Use to Create Configurable Product(Dropdown input type only) Select “Yes” if this attribute will be used to create a drop-down list for a configurable product. Options include: Yes / No
